What the f**k is 'Cewebrity'?
April 9th 2008 01:28
Ok, new word for the day, and it is 'Cewebrity'.
No, it's not a 4 year old's pronounciation of the word 'celebrity', but rather a meeting of the words 'web' and 'celebrity', in that people now days can get famous on the 'web'.
This comes from a new report that a group of girls in America invited a friend of thiers to one of thier houses with the intent of beating her up, filming it and posting it on Youtube, hoping to increase thier popularity.
Beat her up they did, apparently kicking her repeatedly in the head, ramming her head into a wall and knocking her unconscious.
I would love to know what the hell was going on in these girls heads. Don't they know that the only person to get famous for beating people up on web-videos is MMA 'fighter' Kimbo Slice, former porn-lord body guard and general 'roided-up beat-freak.
Popularity, celebrity, it's the gold rush of the modern age. A lotta people out there looking for it, working for it, hoping to exploit it or at the very least, be exploited by it.
But with a little history lesson, lies the fact that the people who are most successful in a gold rush scenario are the ones selling the dream. Back in the gold rush days it was the people selling the tools, the leases, the boarding houses etc who made the real dosh, and now it's no different.
Isn't Tom of Myspace a billionaire now? What about the guys who made YouTube? Yup, billionaires. They exploited our want (not need, never need), of becoming famous, craving recognition, and made off like thieves.
Thieves because they have stolen something from us. They've stolen the fact that fame doesn't make us happy and replaced it with the belief that it does! Not just web developers, tv, movie and music producers, the 'Reality' tv scurge, the movers and shakers promoting this modern dream of 'making it'. Too bad we're hung up on the idea of 'making' and not clued up on what the hell 'it' is!
We can't all be famous, we can't all be rich, but we can all be happy, only when we're all happy...
Join me wont you? We must destroy the old to create the new...
First thing's first; turn off the tv!
