Let The Chaos In...

June 12th 2008 01:41
Hi, how are we today?
Having fun surfing the net? Or is it 'serfing' the net?
Are you enjoying yourself, wading brain-deep in the sea of information?
How's about a life vest to keep you from sinking, to keep the the information from flooding your lungs, filling your mouth and replacing your eyes?
What is all this information for? We look up answers to questions we already know the answers to, just to be sure we're 'right', according to someone else's interpretation, supposed-knowledge and opinion.
We serf around, looking for a phrase, a little piece of information (preferable bite-sized), that may unlock all the shit in our brains and make everything seem ok.

But things are far from ok, aren't they? Things will never be ok for everyone. Someone will always be suffering while someone else basks in happiness.
Suffering, in our current ontological climate, is equated with 'Chaos', while happiness, for some reason is associated with 'Order'.
Chaos for the suffering because states are in play that make the suffering possible. Corrupt governments, rampant inequality, societies' 'limitations', and that's just the ones we feel are out of our control. But a lot of us are suffering by our own hands, sitting in our own comfy prisons, especially in the west. Not saying something to someone, keeping emotions bottled up, not taking the opportunites presented to us because we are scared of change.
I see very little evidence of 'Chaos' in the concept of sadness and suffering. What I see is Order of the highest order. Order in staying the way we are, not accepting the Chaos of the future, the chaos of possibility.
Happiness is equated with 'Order' for some reason. Get a mortgae to get your own house, have a baby or 6, go get drunk, go get high, go get a satisfying job, get a satisfying blowjob every 3-6 weeks from your wife (or defacto partner), and so on, and so on.

I see more Chaos in these ideals than I do in suffering and sadness. Chaos from accepting the Order inherent in your life choices. No-one, and I mean NO-ONE, wants to pay a mortgage, but we have to go through this, the chaos of debt, so we can get order in some 2-3 room dwelling, maybe close to where you want to be, maybe not.
Don't get me wrong here folks, Chaos is not evil, Order is not good. They are one in the same, and in the Discordian tradition, I would like to elaborate the ideas that can set you free.
Creative Order & Creative Chaos.
The examples I made above are of the 'Destructive' sides of Order and Chaos, but even claiming that does not make the issue plainly black and white.
You get a mortgage and descend into destructive order as your life becomes more and more the service to something else while what you thought life would be like becomes dictated as something different by the 'powers that be'.
But this destructive chaos is only destructive to those who see it as such. There are people enjoying Creative Order while you are seemingly stuck in the destructive. The guy who sells you on the house, sells you on the best type of loan, for example. These guys are using the creative to thier advantage in terms of getting your money. But only money.
You can also enjoy creative order in your newly acuired home (or at least until you can't make the repayments and get kicked out). You can make the home your own. Design, decorate, make it a 'happy' place, and push aside the thoughts of having to pay back a bank for the next 30 years. Besides, they will be up faster than you think.
See, one in the same yeh?
Creative Order = Willfully taking advantage of the idea of Order.
Creative Chaos = Willfully taking advantage of the idea of Chaos.
Chaos is not bad, ok?
Some of the best things are born from chaos (ie the UNIVERSE we live in), just as fantastic things are born from order (ie LOVE - giving order to the funky chaos inside your brain).
You know those weekends, the GREAT weekends that will sit in your mind for the rest of your life? You went out, met up with some friends, then met up with more friends, had fun, then had more fun, got your own T.A.Z (Temporary Autonomous Zone - Bey), goin. It was pretty much unplanned wasn't it? YES!
Willful or not, it was chaos, and it was FUN!
So if you think you're in too much order, take a step back and let some chaos in! And make it creative!

Dedicated to my early-20's muse who's across the sea once again, and I still don't know if she knows how much I chaotically love her.
