Fancy Dress Party Narcissim...

Ahh Fancy Dress parties.
I have never been to a whole lot, and the ones I have been to, well they have been pretty relaxed about the whole thing.
However, I got invited to a fancy dress party a few weeks ago for an old school-friend's 30th.
The invite read that you should come to the party dressed in a manner that represents your home or adopted nation, or as something representing your culture.
Very open-ended I must say. I mean, something representing your 'culture'?
Call me big headed, but a few years ago I came to the conclusion that I am a human being and accepted all culture's as part of me. I have nothing against any culture, except for the ones that are stupid, which unfortunately, is 100% of them at some time or another. So really, no culture is 'mine', so I kind of divorced myself from them all, while at the same time giving them a big hug, much like a father who hugs their child, even though they know their child is stupid but well-meaning.
So, for me to dress up as something representing 'my' 'culture' jsut seems downright stupid, because that means I can go as ANYTHING!
I could dress up as a Zombie, and say I'm representing the horror-genre of storytelling, which has always been a part of our culture. Or I could say that me being dressed as a zombie represents our current zombie-fied lifestyle of work and consuming.
Or I could go dressed as Osama Bin Laden. He IS part of our culture, everyone's culture. The world is a different place now because of him.
Or I could go dressed as myself, representing the unwashed masses.
This fancy dress party is also being held at a pub. Now, I don't mind FD parties, and tend to get into them more if they are at an actual private residence.
'What, don't you like people seeing you dressed up and making conclusions about you based on what you're dressed up as?'
Hell no I don't! The judgement pulsating from people's eyes follow us every where, all day, so why give other people more ammo for assuming how stupid I am.
So I can't really let loose at a FD party at a pub. What if I decide to go as a ballerina and we hit the town after the party disbanded? I don't know the dress-code of where we end up, what if they don't allow men in dresses?
I could be beaten up, raped, or score with some very fine lady, but 2 of those 3 I can do without indefinately, so I don't think I'll go as a ballerina.
So I think I'll just go as a 'Well-Wisher', in that I wish the birthday boy no specific harm.
As for representing my home or adopted country, well, that limits my choices somewhat. Being from NZ and currently living in Australia, I could dress up as a Hobbit, and All Black, A sheep-f**king farmer, a Rugby playing drunk/gang rapist, or Steve Irwin (spear in or out?).
No, I'll stick with the well wisher, and if i'm not allowed in (have you ever not been allowed into a fancy dress party?), well then my well-wishing goes to my next avalible costume-while-not-a-costume, apethetic misanthrope.
